Mexico Free Data Sets
Georeferenced
Population Data Sets of Mexico - the Consortium for International
Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) developed a population
data collection for Mexico, drawing on a unique set of georeferenced
population data and on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.
The Georeferenced Population Data Sets of Mexico consists of the
following products: Population Database of Mexico; Urban Place,
Time-Series Population Spreadsheet of Mexico; Urban Place GIS Coverage
of Mexico; GIS Coverage of Mexican Localities; GIS Coverage of Mexican
States; ; and Raster Based GIS Coverage of Mexican Population.
The data below has been converted to ESRI ArcView .shp, MapInfo
.tab file formats.

Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS)
MRDS describes metallic and nonmetallic mineral resources throughout the world. Included are deposit name, location, commodity, deposit description, geologic characteristics, production, reserves, resources, and references. It includes the original MRDS and MAS/MILS data.
You can see an example on the Google Earth Demo page. The data is formatted as a .KMZ file to display in Google Earth.
Digital Chart of the World Data Sets
The Digital Chart of the World (DCW) is an Environmental Systems
Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) product originally developed for
the US Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) using DMA data. The DCW 1993
version at 1:1,000,000 scale was used. The DMA data sources are
aeronautical charts, which emphasize landmarks important from flying
altitudes. This explains why there is a separate aeronautical theme
with all conceivable airports, yet why on some themes small islands
and lakes are simply unnamed points. ESRI, in compiling the DCW,
also eliminated some detail and made some assumptions for handling
tiny polygons and edgematching. Also, note that the completeness
of the thematic categories present in each layer will vary.
Please read the layer descriptions available in the downloadable
documentation.
